To my son

Dear Bryant, Let me try to describe the gift that you have given to me, Although, I believe that will be a major undertaking. Since it is quite difficult to describe in an ordinary language. Your arrival 18 years ago was unmistakably Marked with anxious trepidation. The journey you undertook Was not of a scheduled nature, But more of a conscious decision. By far, the finest creative gift was you. For when you emerged into my world, I became reborn With my heart so willing to share its wealth. There you were, a small wonder; a tiny reflection Of combined traits which would ultimately be recreated Into the distinctive person you have become. I never realized that my heart Was so willing to share so much love With a stranger so small and needy. You didn't arrive with instructions It was strictly learn as you go. I remember the first time you crawled I remember the first step you took I remember the first word you spoke You were a joy to be around Smiling and ...

Things you never want to happen...

So I have been out of town because of work and I have been loving every day of it. BUT My son who is at home, also had some joy this week... he got into his first car accident. It was nothing major someone hit him from behind, but it was the fact that I was not there that hit me like a ton of bricks. Then I realized how well I have raised him and how great he is going to be. I called him shortly after I heard what happened, he couldnt talk because he was on the phone with the police, and he would call me back. He is 17, he sounded like he was 37. Very mature and took the reins and did the right thing. He called Brian, and then the police, police came out and said, no more monkeys jumping on the bed.. remember that song?? Okay well anyways, police said that they are not going to file a report since both of the cars are driveable and to exchange information and be on their way. He handled the entire situation like he has been through it a million times. We have drilled in his head ...

A boy growing into a man

Image
I have a friend and she is really having a hard time with her daughter and while I am listening to her, I realize how lucky I am to have raised such an amazing man. B came to visit us at the Lodge last night, since we all were consumed with meetings after meetings and seemed like there was no end to the pain, he came up to visit. He stayed for awhile, and he and I chatted about a few serious things that did not contain his laughter, nor his witty wisecracks. His candor was amazing while speaking to me and he was brutally honest, which was so refreshing and allowed me to see inside his soul and how he actually views the world and the people in it. I was amazed at how grown up he seemed through this conversation. We finished talking and he was going to leave and hugging everyone, and my friend asked me when he was walking out the door, "arent you worried about him, or sad that he is growing older"? I thought for minute and smiled, "No, I am not sad nor worried" I said...

Why Math is good for a 16 year old

Did I tell you that Boy Wonder got a job? Yep he sure did, went online and filled out the application, very smart business I thought, becuase I have seen my sons printing and I wouldn't hire him either. He got a call the next day for an interview, I took him to the interview, and while he was inside all i was thinking was doughnuts and salad. So of course I just had to go into the store for said items and sneak a peek at my son, who was waiting in front of the store for manager. The interview lasted I think 1 doughnut. He came out and wasn't sure if he got hired but knew he had to be somewhere across town on Saturday. So I told him to dress nice in case it was a series of more interviews and reminded him of all the questions he had to answer about his eithic's online, with my help of course. So I pick him up Saturday and he has the job was all excited about getting paid for the day. A week later he saw that poaycheck for that day, he wasn't happy. They screwed ...

My son turns 15 today

Today he turned 15. The last year before he starts driving, the last year before he goes to work, and probably the last year that I can have a say in what he wears. The only thing that I complain about it the low pants which promptly gets fixed when I am around. Today he starts to realize that what he does now impacts his entire life. Did you hear about those 4 14 year old that stole the car and killed a 18 year old by running over him/her?? I do not want that to be my son. Today he realized that he is going to be a man and any day now he could be a father. (OMG!)Today I reflected on how he was born, the many hours I was in labor (18 hours),HARD back labor. Got to love it. I remember this one girl who came with me and she was so scared that she hid behind a chair in the room. I wonder if she has had any kids. Leslie was her name. I remember Bryant having the biggest brown eyes when he was born and I remember how perfect his complexion was, not a single red spot or pimple on his face, a...

4 hours of school is a killer

Ok so the boy had to go to school today. He wanted to stay home and watch television all day eat scones, read the paper and stay in jammie ALL DAY. I made him go to school. When was the last time that I could stay home and STAY IN MY JAMMIE ALL DAY LONG???? It has been awhile. I have tried, I get my big bowl of coffee, and sit on the recliner getting ready to watch all the morning shows my mind can soak up in one sitting. The guilt starts when a commercial comes on, my coffee is empty so I go upstairs, while taking a load of clean clothes with me. Then when the morning light hits my kitchen you can see every single peice of dirt on the floor and mark on my white counter tops. So then I tell myself, ill just celan it up wont take that long, two hours later, I have a diet coke and am getting ready to sit back into the reclinder, when the dog wants outside. I let her out, realize that the leaves are all over the yard, and also dog messes, I proceed to shut the door and go back a...
